FAQs
Questions regarding the competition can be emailed to info@greenshedcompetition.com. The deadline for questions is February 26th, 2010.
Q: Can any of the garden plots be eliminated or relocated?
A: No. The plot areas of the garden are already under construction, and have been allocated to Pandora Park Community Garden users, who will begin planting well before the end of the competition. The competition is limited to the area outlined on the background drawing provided.
Q: Can the fence to the north of the competition area be removed or modified?
A: Although the fence is already under construction, entrants may propose modifications that complement their design.
Q: What is the budget for the project?
A: There is no set budget for the project. However, the purpose of the project is to showcase natural/alternative/sustainable design with an emphasis on community engagement. Entrants should therefore use their own best judgement in proposing materials and technologies.
Q: Why is the area for public amenities and garden shed noted in the planning proposal different from the background drawing provided?
A: The planning of the garden has changed slightly from the original planning proposal. Entrants should refer to the background drawing when preparing their entry.
Q: How many volunteers will be working on the project? What kind of facilities and tools are available to the construction team?
A: The winning entry will be built as a community engagement project by a team of undetermined size and will include unskilled volunteers and experienced tradespeople. The team will have access to standard North American construction tools and equipment. Entrants may propose the use of specialized trades, equipment or technologies where they are critical to the design; these should not, however, form the bulk of the construction.
Q: Are any sponsors for the competition/construction project?
A: No. The competition has been organized wholly by the Pandora Park Community Garden Society.
Q: Why are there no amounts given for the cash prizes?
A: Cash prizes will come from the collection of competition entry fees, and the amounts will therefore reflect the number of participants.
Q: Does the storage need to be secure (lockable?)?
A: Yes.
Q: Are exterior stairs, ramps, open decks, trellises, and roof overhangs excluded from the 100 sq.ft. building area restriction?
A: Yes.
